FIRST STITCHES-AND MANY MORE

Pieced Quilts
It was a challenge to use six seemingly disparate fabrics in one design. I decided to focus on the dominant colors of each. Using the dotty "denim" and other Hoffman batiks, I made a blue background for the contrasting chartreuse spools; the two white background fabrics in half-square triangles create the "thread." I was so pleased when I discovered the border fabric in my stash, echoing the "pewter" batik design. Usually a garment sewer, this is my first quilt. It will hang in the sewing room where I teach 4-H'ers to take their "first stitches-and many more."
